Reach Ahead High School Program For Grades 7 – 8
CWS School is a Ministry of Education-inspected, credit-granting institution that offers Kindergarten to grade 12 level courses. CWS is authorized to grant “reach ahead” credits, which means that students currently in Grade 8 are eligible to take up to three high school level credits ahead of time from grade 9 credit courses.

This is an excellent opportunity for elementary students to:
- Reduce the academic demand in their first year of high school by already having completed a mandatory course;
- Ease the transition from middle school into secondary school;
- To be well prepared for the high school courses in Grade 9.
Note: the reach-ahead program is only open to students in their Grade 8 year or those who are in the summer before the start of their Grade 9 year.
This may occur only after the Principal of CWS consults with the student, their parents or guardians, and the Principal of the elementary school of the student. The Principal must ensure that the learning expectations of the Grade 8 course have been met. The Principal is also responsible for evaluating the student’s achievement of the expectations of the high school course as well as the issuing of the credit.
The Principal shall record written authorization from the parent/guardian and the elementary school principal in the student’s file for these types of credits. To request a reach ahead credit, a student must complete a school request form. The principal shall take appropriate action to ensure that the student’s home school (regular day school) is aware of the request to enroll in a reach ahead credit and shall obtain the home school’s written approval.
Upon successful completion of our Reach Ahead course, an official report card will be filed in the Ontario Student Record (OSR) at CWS School.
