AWARDS
CWS offers opportunities for students to engage in national and international competitions.
Competition introduced to all CWS students has previously been in the departments of Mathematics, Computer Science, Science, and Fine Arts.
In previous years, CWS’s sister school was recognized as the top 10 school’s winner of:
Canadian Mathematical Olympiad Winner in the years 2009, 2020, and in the World
Championship Mathematics Competition in the year 2021 our student won a Silver Medal
for Team Canada.

The Sun Life Financial Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC) 2009
excellent complement to the CEMC’s mathematical competitions. The purpose of the Sun Life Financial COMC was to encourage students to explore, discover, and learn more about mathematics and problem-solving. At the same time, the competition serves to provide teachers with a unique student enrichment activity during the fall term.

2009 Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO)

The Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO) is Canada’s premier national advanced mathematics
competition. Candidates require an invitation from the Canadian Mathematical Society in order to participate.
RWS (Sabouhi Academy) student Ahmad Abdi became CMO Honourable
Mention, 4th place.
amongst 7500 publicly funded and private schools in Canada.
Ahmad Abdi Success Story:
At the fall 2014 convocation, Ahmad Abdi was awarded an Alumni Gold Medal for Outstanding Academic
Performance in a master’s program. Ahmad’s
MMath thesis, entitled The Cycling Property for the Clutter of Odd st-Walks was written under the supervision of Professor Bertrand Guenin. In his master’s thesis, Ahmad proved Paul Seymour’s celebrated 1979 cycling conjecture for the important special case of lifts of graphic matroids. The cycling conjecture is concerned with the existence of certain integer flows in binary matroids. Ahmad’s result (joint work with Guenin) is a very substantial generalization of an earlier result of Geelen’s and Guenin’s and has applications to T-joins, multi-commodity flows, and graph colouring. Ahmad presented his work at the IPCO 2014 conference in Bonn in June 2014.
Ahmad commenced Ph.D. studies in the Combinatorics and Optimization Department in January 2014. His supervisor is Bertrand Guenin.

The 2020 Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge — Oct 29/30
students at the COMC are invited to write the CMO. Canadian students close to this top tier are invited
to write the second-chance qualifier, called the Repêchage, to attempt to secure an invitation to the CMO.
This year, the cutoff scores were 66/80 or more for an invitation to write the CMO and 61/80 or more for
an invitation to the Repêchage. Awards are not offered in categories listed below where participation rates
are very low or where scores are below the cutoff score of 33/80.

MAA American Mathematics Competitions 2021
The MAA’s American Mathematics Competitions (MAA AMC) program leads the nation in strengthening the mathematical capabilities of the next generation of problem-solvers. Through classroom resources and friendly competition, the MAA AMC program helps America’s educators identify talent and foster a love of mathematics. The MAA AMC program positively impacts the analytical skills needed for future careers in an
innovative society.
