MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT AT CWS
At CWS, we’re committed to fostering the mental well-being of our students. High school years can be particularly challenging, often marked by stress, anxiety, and other mental health concerns among adolescents. Recognizing the significant impact these issues can have on students and their families, we strive to create a supportive environment where students can thrive academically while prioritizing their mental health.
Here’s how we ensure the mental well-being of our students at CWS:
Flexible Learning Environment:
Our educational approach is entirely asynchronous, allowing students to progress through their courses at their own pace. Unlike traditional high school settings, where rigid schedules can exacerbate stress, we offer students the flexibility to complete their coursework over up to one year. This flexibility enables them to take much-needed mental health breaks without worrying about falling behind.
Thoughtful Workloads:
We believe in meaningful learning, not just busy work. That’s why all homework at CWS is optional, empowering students to determine the amount of practice they need to master the material. Our courses are thoughtfully designed to cover curriculum requirements with a minimal number of assessments, reducing unnecessary pressure on students.
Supportive Policies:
Life can be overwhelming, and we understand that. That’s why we offer students the option to pause their courses for up to one month, no questions asked. Whether it’s for personal reasons or to prioritize mental health, students can simply reach out to our administration
team to make arrangements. For longer breaks related to medical or mental health needs, we’re
here to support students on a case-by-case basis, with appropriate documentation.
Extensions and Grace Periods:
We provide a one-week grace period to all students at the end of their one-year course duration, free
of charge. For those who need more time, we offer the option to extend a course for up to three months
for a nominal fee. These extensions ensure that students have the flexibility they need to succeed without
unnecessary stress.
Comprehensive Support:
Every CWS course is backed by OCT-certified teachers, dedicated guidance counselors, and student success staff. Whether students need academic guidance, emotional support, or help with pacing their studies, our team is here to assist them. We even offer personalized study schedules to help students navigate their coursework effectively.
Individualized Accommodations:
We believe in providing equal opportunities for all students. That’s why we offer accommodations such as extended test time, which can alleviate test-related anxiety and allow students to demonstrate their true abilities. For students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs), our teachers can provide additional accommodations tailored to their needs, ensuring that every student can succeed at CWS.
